愤慨：大学英语课文，如此侮辱中国人！

During the meal， I had to go to the toilet. When I came back， I saw that Mr Wu was smoking a cigarette and using the bread plate as an ashtray. I looked at this in horror. We have a' no-smoking policy in all public buildings here in America. I told Mr Wu this and he was shocked at the mistake he had made. "Now I understand why there are no ashtrays on the table and why those people over there gave me such a funny look"，he said.

用餐期间我想去洗手间。回来时我看到吴先生在抽烟，还把面包盘用作烟灰缸。我惊恐地看着这一切。美国所有的公共建筑物里都禁止吸烟。我把这事告诉了吴先生，他对自己所犯的错误感到非常震惊。“现在我明白为什么桌上没有烟灰缸，为什么那边的人用怪异的眼神看着我。”他说。

笔者评论：

公共场所，中国人抽烟并且把面包盘当成了烟缸。这不就是西方媒体一直乐于编造传播的丑陋的中国人的形象吗？

然而，在公共场所吸烟的绝非只有中国人，比起外国人在大街上随地大小便，似乎在公共场所吸烟并不更丑陋。实际上，2011年开始，中国已经颁布了公共场所完全禁止吸烟的条例，并且逐步全面推行。

比起美国、加拿大、欧洲等国家把大麻等毒品合法化的惊人壮举。中国人可完全比不了。

更关键的是，这种把面包盘子当做烟灰缸的事情，很少有人会这样做。好巧不巧让这文章的作者遇到了？这情节有极大概率是杜撰编造。

As the meal went on， Mr Wu got louder and louder as he drank more and more "tea"; Finally we finished the meal. I wanted to pay the bill and take Mr Wu back to his hotel. He insisted on paying the bill as he was in America on company expense.

用餐时，吴先生喝得越来越多，声音也越来越响。最后我们结束了晚餐。我打算付账，然后带他回宾馆。他坚持由他来付账，因为他在美国的费用是公司付的。
