笔者评论:
美国商人非常主观,事实上现在中国商人基本不在意座次,只要合作成功就好。还没开始交流,就判断中国商人不想谈生意。这种结论从何而来,简直滑稽至极。
或许沐猴而冠就是这种心理。
When the waiter asked what we would like to drink, my guest, Mr Wu, asked for Long Island Iced Tea. He said he was thirsty. I was not sure if he knew what he had ordered, but he really enjoyed it. He said it was better than the tea he drank in China and immediately ordered another. Now I realised that he did not know that Long Island Iced Tea was not "tea"; but a cocktail consisting of rum, gin, vodka and other alcohol. By the time he had drunk his fourth cocktail I was starting to get a little worried, but I said nothing although it was starting to get rather difficult to understand him. After all, he was an important customer. I was surprised that when Mr Wu had finished his meal, he sat back and burped loudly.
当服务员问我们想喝什么时,我的客人吴先生点了长岛冰茶。他说他很渴。我不确定他是否知道自己点了什么,但是他确实非常喜欢。
他说这比他在中国喝的茶更好,并且随即又点了一杯。我开始意识到他并不知道长岛冰茶不是“茶”,而是一种由朗姆酒、杜松子酒、伏特加和其他酒类组成的鸡尾酒。
在他喝完第四杯鸡尾酒后,我开始有点担心了,但什么也没说。毕竟他是一位重要的客户。不过我开始觉得难以听懂他的话。令我吃惊的是,吴先生用完餐后往后一靠,打了一个很响的饱嗝。
笔者评论:
其实,换位思考就会明白:美国商人不说“长岛冰茶”是鸡尾酒,中国客人不了解情况也非常正常。作为接待方,有义务帮助客人了解本地饮食文化和食物饮料的特点。这是善意合作的前提。只能说这位美国商人心怀恶意,有意看中国客人喝醉出丑。
在中国客人喝了几杯鸡尾酒后,或许酒意上涌,打了一个嗝。不管是饱嗝还是气嗝,都是正常的生理反应。难道你美国人从来不打嗝不放屁?
这种阴暗的心理,或许还带着一种莫名其妙的优越感,实在不知羞耻。
