据悉，2019年8月，美国突然暴发“电子烟疾病”，即与电子烟或雾化产品相关的肺损伤（EVALI），病例数量在9月份达到高峰。

截至2019年10月3日，德特里克堡基地所在的马里兰州出现23例（仅包括自愿报告的病例）电子烟疾病病例后，该州卫生部长罗伯特·尼尔对医生发布了新的命令。
